Alright, guys, let’s get into this. I’ve been itching to remake this watch, the Patek Philippe Gondolo 4962/200R-001. This thing is a beauty, classic style, rose gold. Man, it’s just calling my name. I mean, it’s all about the iconic design, rounded octagonal shape, and that contrast between the polished and satin-brushed finishes, you know?
So, first, I gotta get the materials. I managed to find some decent rose gold, not the real deal, of course, but something that looks pretty close. I also found a suitable base watch with a similar shape. It’s not a Patek, obviously, but it’ll do the job. I mean, it is 39 millimeters. Not bad, right?
Next, I started working on the case. This was a real pain. I spent hours trying to replicate that rounded octagonal shape. I used some files, sandpaper, and a whole lot of patience. Let me tell you, it wasn’t easy. But after a few tries, I finally got something that I was happy with. It wasn’t perfect, but it had that classic Gondolo vibe.
Then came the polishing. Man, this was tedious. I wanted that perfect shine, you know, like the real thing. I used different grades of polishing compounds, working my way up to the finest one. It took forever, but the result was worth it. The case was gleaming, and that rose gold color was really popping. It’s available for the first time in steel.
The dial was another challenge. I couldn’t find an exact replica, so I had to get creative. I found a dial that was close enough and then modified it to match the original as best as I could. I added some details, changed the color a bit, and voila, it looked pretty darn good.
The movement was the easy part. I just used the movement from the base watch. It’s not a Patek movement, but it keeps time, and that’s all that matters for this project. I ain’t selling it, you know?
Finally, I put it all together. The case, the dial, the movement, the strap. It was like watching a beautiful puzzle come to life. And there it was, my very own remade Patek Philippe Gondolo 4962/200R-001. Man, that rose gold, it shines so pretty. Remake Patek Philippe PP Calatrava, it’s full of little secrets.
Is it the real thing? Of course not. But does it capture the essence of the original? I think it does. And for me, that’s what matters. It’s a reminder of what I can achieve with a little bit of effort, a lot of patience, and a whole lot of love for watches.
- Effort: Yeah, I put in the work.
- Patience: Loads of it.
- Love for Watches: You bet!
The Final Result
It’s not perfect, but it’s mine. And I’m damn proud of it. It looks awesome on my wrist, if I do say so myself.
