Okay, so, I’ve been wanting to get my hands on a PRADA Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag for a while now. You know, the medium-sized one. But the price tag? Oof. Not in my budget right now. So, I thought, why not try to remake one myself? A little ambitious, maybe, but I was determined!
First things first, I needed to figure out what this bag was all about. I spent hours, seriously, just staring at pictures online. I checked out the official PRADA store, some second-hand luxury sites, anything I could find. I needed to see every angle, every detail. I even found some conversations about it on social media, like, this guy @2bprada seemed to really know his stuff.
I started to get a feel for the materials. It’s all about that Saffiano leather, right? And some of them use Re-Nylon, which is pretty cool, it’s like recycled and sustainable. I wrote down everything I found, like a real detective. I had pages of notes about the triangle logo, the stitching, the hardware, everything.
Next up, the actual making part. This was the real challenge. I knew I couldn’t get the exact same materials, but I tried to find some good alternatives. I found some leather that had a similar texture and got some fabric that looked kind of like the Re-Nylon. Not perfect, but it was close enough for me. I’m not a professional, alright? It’s just for fun.

- Sewing: Used my old sewing machine.

I had to make my own pattern. I used the pictures I’d collected and just, like, eyeballed it. I drew it out on some paper, cut it out, and hoped for the best. Then came the cutting. I laid out my materials and started cutting along my makeshift pattern. I was so nervous I’d mess it up, but I took it slow and it actually turned out okay. I even double checked all of my cuts were right. I wasn’t about to start sewing with a cut I didn’t need!
Sewing was the hardest part. I have an old sewing machine, nothing fancy, and I’m not exactly an expert. But I went for it, piece by piece. It took forever, and I definitely made some mistakes, had to rip out some seams and start over a few times. But eventually, it started to look like a bag!
The Finishing Touches
The last step was adding the hardware. I got some buckles and a zipper that looked kind of like the ones on the real bag. It wasn’t easy, but I managed to attach them. And then, I was done. My very own, handmade, not-quite-PRADA bag.
It’s not perfect, not by a long shot. But I’m actually really proud of it. It was a fun project, and I learned a lot. Plus, now I have a bag that’s kind of like the one I wanted, but way, way cheaper. It was so easy! And hey, it’s unique, right? It’s my own creation. I even think I could sell these for a good amount! If you’re looking for a fun DIY project, maybe give this a try. Just be prepared to spend some time on it, and don’t expect to become a master craftsman overnight. It’s all about the journey, and having fun. I think I will try it again!
