Okay, so, I got this idea the other day. I was scrolling through some fashion blogs, and I kept seeing these gorgeous Yves Saint Laurent bags. You know, the ones with the fancy YSL logo? Yeah, those. Specifically, the June Box Bag caught my eye. It’s this cute little boxy thing with a quilted pattern and a shiny metal logo closure. But, the price tag? Ouch. Way out of my league.
So, what’s a girl to do? I decided I’d try to make one myself! A Remake Yves Saint Laurent YSL June Box Bag, that’s what I’d call it. I mean, how hard could it be, right? Turns out, harder than I thought, but still a fun challenge.
Getting Started
First, I needed materials. I found some black lambskin-like leather at a local fabric store – not the real deal, obviously, but it looked pretty good. I also grabbed some gold-toned hardware, a zipper, and some black thread. For the inside, I picked out a suede-like material, you know, to make it feel a little more luxurious. The tools, I already had some basic ones, such as needles, a ruler, scissors, and a sewing machine, which my grandma gave to me years ago.
The Real Work
The real work was figuring out the pattern. I spent hours looking at pictures of the real June Box Bag online, trying to figure out the dimensions and how all the pieces fit together. I drew a rough sketch on some paper, then cut out the leather pieces.
- Cutting the leather was nerve-wracking! I measured everything like five times before making each cut.
- Then came the quilting. I practiced on some scrap leather first because I’d never done diamond quilting before. It’s harder than it looks, let me tell you! It took a few tries to get the hang of it, but eventually, I managed to quilt the front and back panels.
- The next step was assembling the box. I sewed the sides to the bottom, then attached the front and back. This was tricky because I had to make sure everything lined up perfectly.
- Then I made the flap, quilted it, and attached it to the back of the box. This part was a bit of a headache, honestly.
Finishing Touches
For the closure, I couldn’t find an exact replica of the YSL logo, but I found a similar gold-toned one that looked pretty good. I attached it to the flap, and it actually worked! I also added a little flat pocket on the inside, just like the real one. The final touch was making the shoulder strap. I braided some of the leather and attached some gold rings to each end, then I clipped it onto the bag. It’s maybe a little longer than the original design.
And there you have it! My very own Remake Yves Saint Laurent YSL June Box Bag. It’s definitely not perfect, and it took me way longer than I expected, but I’m pretty proud of it. It’s not the same as the real thing, of course, but it’s got that same classic style, and it holds all my essentials – phone, small wallet, keys, the usual stuff. Plus, I made it myself, which is pretty cool, right?
