Okay, so today I’m messing around with this watch, right? It’s a remake of the Patek Philippe Calatrava, the 5227G-010 model. I got my hands on the original order details, and let me tell you, this was a fun little project.

Getting Started

First off, I had to find all the parts. This wasn’t as easy as just walking into a store, you know? I started by calling some people I know who are into this kind of stuff. I mean, who just has Patek Philippe parts lying around, right? Anyway, I searched for the parts, called some friends, and started to collect what I needed.

The Process

I took a look at the original order, and it’s pretty detailed. We’re talking about a “luxury” watch here, so every little piece is top-notch. It’s not like assembling those flat-pack furniture things. This is the real deal, and everything has to be perfect. It took quite a while to track down some of the parts I needed.

  • First, I laid out all the parts I had managed to find. It’s a bit like doing a puzzle, but way more expensive and stressful, haha.
  • Then, I started with the movement, which is basically the heart of the watch. It’s like, if this part isn’t right, the whole thing is messed up.
  • Next, I carefully put together the dial and the hands. This part was super delicate. I had to make sure the hands were aligned perfectly, or else the whole thing would look off.
  • After that, I worked on the case. This watch has a white gold case, and let me tell you, it’s a beauty. I had to be extra careful not to scratch it while putting it all together.

The Final Touches

Once I had the main parts assembled, it was time for the final touches. I added the strap, which is this really nice leather. It’s the kind of strap that makes you feel fancy just wearing it. I also made sure the watch was running smoothly and keeping time accurately. There were a few minor hiccups at first, I had to re-align the hands a couple of times before I was happy with it.

After everything was assembled and checked, I compared it to some pictures of the original. I wanted to see how close I got. Honestly, it looked pretty darn good! Of course, I’m not a professional watchmaker, but for a DIY project, I was pretty proud of myself. I spent hours just looking at the finished watch, taking photos, and admiring my own handiwork. It was exhausting, but totally worth it in the end.

So yeah, that’s how I spent my time remaking a Patek Philippe Calatrava. It was a challenging but fun project. If you’re into watches and have some time on your hands, I’d say give it a shot. Just be prepared to spend a lot of time and maybe a bit of money, haha.
