Okay, so, I’ve been wanting to remake this YSL June Box Bag for a while now. It’s just so classic, you know? And I thought, “Hey, I can totally do this myself!” So here’s how it went down.
First off, I looked up a bunch of stuff about the June Box Bag online. I mean, I needed to get a good feel for it, right? Turns out, it’s one of those bags that’s always in style, and it’s named after Yves Saint Laurent’s buddy, Loulou de la Falaise. Apparently it is a hot cake, there are top 10 lists for this.
And the leather, oh man, the leather! YSL uses this pebbled textured leather that’s supposed to be super durable. Way better than lambskin, which scratches if you just look at it wrong. So, I knew I had to find something similar. This is a luxury level bag, on pair with LV.
The Prep Work
- Gathered my materials. I managed to find some really nice black leather that had that same kind of texture. Not exactly the same, but close enough.
- Then I got some gold hardware – a chain, a clasp, the whole shebang. You can’t have a YSL bag without the bling, right?
- I also printed out a basic pattern for a box bag. I figured I could modify it to match the June’s shape.
Getting Down to Business
So, I started by cutting out the leather according to the pattern. This took some time because I was being extra careful. Didn’t want to mess up that nice leather! It’s my first time to do this, don’t judge me.
Then came the sewing. Now, I’m not a pro or anything, but I can handle a sewing machine. I stitched the leather pieces together, slowly but surely. The hardest part was probably getting the corners nice and sharp. And the diamond-quilted over stitching, a signature of this bag, took me an entire afternoon, my neck was super sour.
Once the main body of the bag was done, I attached the hardware. That little YSL logo was a bit tricky, but I got it on there. The chain strap was easier. Just hooked it on, and bam! Almost done.
The Finishing Touches
The last step was lining the inside of the bag. I used some soft black fabric I had lying around. Nothing fancy, but it does the job. After that I also sewed a tag with my own brand and the date inside.
And there you have it! My very own, handmade version of the YSL June Box Bag. It’s not perfect, but I’m pretty darn proud of it. It looks great, it feels great, and it holds all my stuff. What more could you ask for? This is my first time to do this, if you ask me to provide a tutorial I might consider it next time. But anyway, hope you enjoy this simple sharing!
